This outdoor method uses a metal trash can surrounded by coals.
What you Need:
Turkey (fresh or thawed if frozen)
20 lb. charcoal
1 box heavy-duty foil
20 gallon CLEAN metal trash can
Season or marinate your turkey as desired.
Prepare your cooking area outside; cover the ground with foil so that the area is large enough for the trash can and charcoal around it. While you are preparing your cooking area, pre-heat charcoal. (you can use a chimney starter, charcoal basket, or even the trash can lid for pre-heating)
Cover the wooden stake with foil & insert it in the ground in the center of the foil.
Place turkey on the stake, legs down.
Turn the aluminum trash can upside down over the turkey.
Surround the perimeter and top of the trash can with heated charcoal.
Cook the turkey approximately 5 minutes per pound until the dark meat reaches 175° F to 180° (Do not lift the can during cooking)
