Food Town It’s a CHERRY kind of day!

Let’s honor this sweet and tasty hand pie: the delicious Cherry Turnover! Whether it’s for breakfast. just a snack or dessert, they are perfect at any time of the day. All you need to indulge in this timeless treat on “National Cherry Turnover Day” is cherries and few simple ingredients – making them is as easy as..pie!

Called turnovers because of how they are made: pastry filled with cherry filling, folded over and sealed.  Some prefer their turnovers baked while others like to deep fry them.  Filled with canned or fresh cherries, their versatility even extends to what temperature they can be served at, from hot to room temp. Either way, you choose, you’ll reap the nutritional value from the cherries themselves.

Cherries are known to lower the risk of heart disease because they pack an anti-inflammatory punch. They also help to protect cells from damage because of the antioxidants that are present. If that was not enough, cherries can help to improve sleep quality, as well as improving the symptoms of gout and arthritis. They can also boost exercise recovery.

Stop by your neighborhood Food Town to pick up all the ingredients you need to make your perfect cherry turnover.

Ingredients

1 box Pillsbury™ refrigerated pie crust, softened as directed on box
1 cup cherry pie filling (21 oz can)
¼ cup chopped pecans, toasted
1 tablespoon sugar
¼ teaspoon ground cinnamon
