Warm Drinks Pair Perfectly with Winter Weather

‘Tis the season for warm drinks and snuggly blankets — even here in Texas! Although we might not often get the white Christmases other areas see, it still gets chilly enough to take comfort in a warm mug of cocoa, sip some steaming tea or indulge in other warm drinks. Your Food Town has pulled together a few of our favorite yummy drinks that aren’t just fun to make, but awfully tasty, too.

Hot Chocolate Bomb
Cocoa is a staple of the winter season. (In fact, January 31 is National Hot Chocolate Day!) And, while the classic concoction is great in and of itself, hot chocolate bombs offer a fun and unique take. Start by creating half-circle chocolate molds. (This step is much easier to do than it sounds!) Once the molds are cooled, fill the hollow center of one half with cocoa, marshmallows and other sweet treats such as sprinkles and crushed candy canes. Then, warm the edges of another half mold and push both halves together until they stick. When ready, release the filled chocolate ball into a cup of hot milk and watch it explode. It will blend all your ingredients together into one decadent hot cocoa drink. (YUM!)

Mulled Cranberry Apple Cider
If you’re looking for something delicious and aromatic, mulled cranberry apple cider is a sure bet. Made with cranberry juice, apple cider, orange peel, ginger, cinnamon and other spices, it’s a perfect blend of sweetness and tart to wake up your taste buds and warm you up as you sip. (Plus, it smells absolutely amazing!) To kick things up a notch, stop by your local grocery store for fresh fruit, spices and other add-ins your family and friends can use to garnish those already great drinks.

Ginger-Turmeric Herbal Tea
Whether you’re coming down with a case of the sniffles or you just love a good cup of tea, this ginger-turmeric herbal tea is pretty awesome. Turmeric is known to have anti-inflammatory properties, and this warm drink is something great to curl up with amid winter weather. Made with hot water, turmeric, ginger, cinnamon, honey and lemon, it pairs perfectly with a fluffy blanket and favorite book.

While you can’t go wrong with any of the warm drinks mentioned above, this is just the beginning, neighbor! Make a list of warm drinks you’re interested in trying and then stop by to shop all the ingredients needed at your neighborhood Food Town.
